This week, we wanted to share a few of our favorite creators developing content about art:

  • The Gaze, @thegaze_art, makes engaging, informative, and beautifully designed Instagram and Tiktok videos on artworks. Belgian creator Matthjjs explains the potential meaning behind the artworks, themes across the works of an artist, references that might be too outdated for us to pick up on, and art techniques across eras, covering works from Renaissance artist Hieronymous Bosch to Modern artist Alice Neel

  • Baumgartner Restoration posts longform youtube videos of the painting restoration process - an incredibly tedious process, requiring depth of knowledge in both science and painting. Not only do the videos feature a master at work, performing a skill that feels truly like magic, but the videos are also calming, perfect for a post-work night. Check them out here.

  • Mary McGillivray, @_theiconoclass, is a TikTok creator and self-described art history influencer. In her short form videos, she breaks down significant art history movements for a younger audience, oftentimes delving into contemporary art’s intersection with pop culture. Referencing art influences on shows like Bridgerton and the Harry Potter franchise, McGillivray makes art history accessible for all to enjoy.
